Chamelle Designs – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

October 2022: We are currently open for trading, operating and shipping as usual. All goods are produced and packed in a Covid-19 free environment.

Please note that there may be delays in production and shipping when there are weather-related events such as heavy rainfall, flooding or bushfires.

Due to the current Victorian floods and restricted access, there will be delays shipping to those affected areas.

Where is Chamelle Designs located?

Chamelle Designs is located in Sydney, Australia (Eora Nation). Our Wall Decals and Removable Fabric Wallpaper are printed in Melbourne and shipped from Sydney.

Our company is 100% Australian owned and our decals and prints are proudly made/printed in Australia. Other decor items are manufactured by our preferred suppliers both in Australia (Sydney) and overseas. We do try to manufacture in Australia as much as possible.

Who designed the Decals and Prints?

All the decals, wallpaper and prints are designed by me (Livia), except where noted. I am a professional graphic designer, web designer and photographer and have been for decades. Please read the About Us page for more information.

Can you custom design something for me?

Yes we sure can! (in off peak periods only ie outside of major public holidays, summer/Christmas holidays, school holidays and sales periods). We would love to help create the beautiful, stylish space of your dreams for your child(ren) or even yourself! There will be an hourly fee for this. Please contact us for more information.

Please note that colours appear differently on different screens and devices.

They also look different in different rooms depending on the lighting in the room, blinds/curtains and the time of day, weather, etc.

If you would like to colour match other items in your room please order a colour swatch chart from us. Please contact us for more information.

What is the Decal material?

Our wall decals are made of a soft, woven polyester fabric with an adhesive backing. They have a white opaque base with a textured matt finish. They are not made of vinyl or PVC and are BPA-free. Unlike vinyl decals they won’t rip, stretch or curl.

The adhesive allows you to place the decals easily onto smooth surfaces such as furniture and walls. They can be easily removed without damaging surfaces and without leaving any residue.

* Please keep the backing paper (and leave it rolled up) if you wish to reuse the decals another time or in another room or house later on *

They are simple to use: Simply Peel and Stick! No paste, glue, water or additional tools are required.

Inks

The decals and prints are printed with the highest quality commercial inkjet printers, using long-lasting inks that are non-toxic.

Are your wall decals suitable if I’m renting?

100% Yes! In fact this company and business idea was started because we were/are renting and I wanted a quick and easy way to decorate the walls without damaging them.

How long do the decals last?

We have personally tested the decals on our walls for almost 1.5 years. During this time they did not fall down and there was no damage to either the walls or the decals. They can still be easily reused. We can assume they will last at least 5 years… In any case, you’ll probably want to change them before that time!

Surfaces

  • Our Chamelle Designs removable fabric decals/wallpaper go on any flat and smooth surfaces such as walls, floors and furniture such as standard flat wall surfaces, melamine-coated furniture, glass, plastic and mirrored surfaces.
  • Do not use on textured walls or surfaces, uneven walls, brick walls, timber, concrete, bare plaster or walls with flaky paint.
  • Do not use on walls painted with a Teflon (non stick) coating or with ‘wash and wear’ paints.
  • Do not use in wet or steamy areas like kitchens and bathrooms or on food preparation/dining areas or surfaces.
  • Please wait at least 6 weeks before using on freshly painted walls.

Unfortunately, even though these paints are better for our health and for the environment, they resist adhesion and therefore the wall decals or wallpaper may start to fall away from the wall after some time. However, every wall and every type of paint is different. If you’d still like to try I’d recommend ordering a sample (contact us) and testing it for a 2-3 weeks to see what happens before ordering the full size product.

Surface preparation

Please wipe over with a slightly damp lint-free cloth to remove dirt and dust. Do not clean with alcohol, soap or detergents as this may affect the decal’s adhesive sticking to the wall properly. Allow to dry for 24 hours. The wall must be clean and completely dry before use.

Please note: We make no claims or guarantees that our products are suitable for all walls. If you are unsure about using our product on your walls or you do not know what type of walls you have, we recommend ordering a sample and testing it in an inconspicuous spot (like behind a door in the corner of the room) for 2-3 weeks.

Decal Application

To begin, make sure your hands are clean and 100% dry and avoid touching the adhesive side of the decal too much.

For smaller decals you may simply peel them off the backing sheet and stick them straight onto the wall.

For larger decals more than 50-60cm wide we recommend using 2 people. Leave the decal on the backing sheet but just peel a small section (about 10cm wide) off to stick onto the wall first before peeling away the backing sheet (person 1), while simultaneously smoothing the decal down onto the wall with your hands or a credit card(person 2).

For wallpaper, you will need 2 people and a ladder, using the same method as above. Use a scraper tool or credit card to ensure there are no air bubbles. Remember that the material can easily be lifted and repositioned if you didn’t get it straight the first time. Our wallpapers will overlap by about 10mm.

Decal Removal

Yes, our decals are 100% removable without damage to most walls/surfaces or to the decals themselves. Simply use your fingernail, credit card or letter opener to lift a corner and peel away slowly from the wall at an angle. Then stick them back onto the original backing sheet and you can re-use them in another room, another house, or give them away or sell them to someone else!

What sizes do your prints come in?

They currently come in A4 and A3 size. Please note, these are different to American paper sizes.

They can also be trimmed to 30 x 40cm (300 x 400mm) to fit this popular size of photo frame.

  • A4 = 210 x 297mm or 8 1/4 x 11 3/4 inches
  • A3 = 297 x 420mm or 11 3/4 x 16 1/2 inches
  • 300mm x 400mm or 12 x 16 inches

Do they come with frames?

No, they do not. We do however sell magnetic wooden poster hangers in our store. For regular picture frames we recommend these stores (in Australia): Big W, Freedom, Ikea, Kmart, Myer, Officeworks, Spotlight, or Target.

How long will Production and Printing take?

Most Chamelle Designs decals, prints and wallpaper are made to order. For new orders and custom orders please allow approximately 3 weeks.

There may be some decals and prints in stock which are ready to be purchased immediately.

Please allow more time when we currently have a sale, or when it’s a public holiday or school holiday period.

Please be patient as this company is new and is currently only being run by one person (me, Livia :) )

Please note: The shipping/delivery time is in addition to this production time (please see below).

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit cards: Visa and Mastercard, and Paypal and Stripe. Please contact us if you would like to use another payment method.

Is your website secure?

Yes, please be assured your credit card details are safe with us. To double check, you can see that the URL begins with https:// and not http:// and there is a lock icon in/next to the web address bar.

Once you have paid and placed your order you will receive an email confirmation (within a few minutes). If you have have not received this, please check your spam/junk folder and other tabs suchs as ‘Promotions‘ or ‘Social‘. (if you use Gmail). If you still have not received this within 24 hours, please contact us.

Pre-order items are items we don’t currently have in stock and need to order from our manufacturer/supplier. The usual waiting time is approximately 2-3 weeks. In busier periods this may be 4 weeks. This is also the same amount of time for the production/printing of our wall decals and wallpaper.

If some items you order are available now, and some are on pre-order, they will all be shipped together in one package when everything arrives.

When you buy a gift card/voucher it is a code sent by email. Therefore no physical card will be sent in the mail. The recipient will receive the e-gift card directly in their email. If they do not, please remind them to check their junk/spam box and Social/Promotions tabs (if they use Gmail). Gift cards are not refundable or exchangeable for cash.

Can I modify or cancel my order once it has been placed?

Order Modifications

We are sorry, we do not allow order modifications (or refunds for change of mind). Please double check everything prior to purchasing. If you wish to add more products to your order, you will have to place a new order.

Where are the orders shipped from?

All orders are shipped from Sydney, Australia.

How long will the orders take to get to me?

In non-peak times  these are estimated times (number of business days, not total days). NB: Shipping times are in addition to production times.

  • Sydney: 2-4 days
  • Other capital cities and larger towns in Australia (Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, etc): 2-6 days
  • Darwin: 4-10 days
  • Other regional and rural areas in Australia: 4-18 days

Can I do ‘Click and Collect’?

Click and collect is not currently available, sorry, but we may offer this in the future.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we do ship internationally. We ship to New Zealand and most countries in Asia-Pacific, North America, UK and Western Europe.

There are additional shipping charges for this. You can see the shipping charges listed in the shopping cart. Please contact us in advance if you wish to order several wallpaper rolls as this will increase the shipping costs significantly.

NB: You are also responsible for any incoming taxes/duties upon receipt of your parcel in your country.

Returns Policy

As our decals, print and wallpapers are bespoke (ie custom made) we cannot offer refunds unless the products are faulty, damaged in transit or lost in transit. To receive an exchange or refund please contact us within 3 days of receiving your order. Please note: No local (Australian) or international shipping fees are refunded under any circumstances (ie both the shipping fee paid by you to receive the product(s), and the shipping fee paid by you to return the product(s) to us).
